It’s Been Done Before

…but I was reading some Calvin and Hobbes today on a brief 2 hour study break, and I thought that I would compile some of my favorite quotes. Some are funny, some are clever, and some are surprisingly insightful.

  • “I suppose the secret to happiness is learning to appreciate the moment.” my favorite one of all time.
  • It’s psychosomatic. You need a lobotomy. I’ll get a saw.”
  • “What’s the point of wearing your favorite rocketship underpants if nobody ever asks to see ‘em?”
  • “Given that sooner or later we’re all just going to die, what’s the point of learning about integers?
  • That’s the difference between me and the rest of the world! Happiness isn’t good enough for me! I demand euphoria!”
  • “Who was the first guy that look at a cow and said,” I think that I’ll drink whatever comes out of those things when I squeeze them?”

Straight from the billiards lounge in the Dudley H. Davis Center, here is the today’s UVM/Emily’s Life news:

- Finals officially start a week from Friday. Kill me.
- Hunt 301 has recently installed a Christmas tree, complete with blinking Rugrats lights.
- Ms. Hillary Hughes has moved into Hunt 301. A celebratory party will take place Thursday during Grey’s Anatomy
- I am procrastinating a paper
- It’s cold here. And windy.
- Last night I cried while watching the Pearson’s adoption movie. Check it out here
Hmmm, that’s about it. More updates to follow when more things occur (or don’t occur, in which case I’ll update you on their lack of occurance)

Life after highschool.

I’ve graduated, and the post-grad high has already faded away. Fortunatly, it’s faded into early-summer bliss. What did I do yesterday while everyone else sweat themselves to death at Hopkins? Well first, I woke up around 11. Then I decided to lay out on the deck and get some nice pink color and played some fetch with my dog. Then I got kinda hot, so I took a nice cool outdoor shower.  After that, I watched Into The Wild in my air-conditioned living room.

It was a good day.

In other news… some stuff happened in the world. Tori Spelling and Jessica Alba popped. Amy Winehouse is still a mess… but I don’t particularly care, because it’s summer, and I have an appointment with my friends pool.

Things one should never do…

1. Run into chain link fences at full speed. I’ve done it recently. Its really no fun, and I’ve got the bruises to prove it. It wasn’t my fault, per-say.

2. Limit your college search. It leaves you with very little choices. Take it from me, apply everywhere and anywhere that you remotely like. It’ll help you in the long run.

3. Work more than 15 hours a week while still in school. It sucks and it leaves very little time for napping or reading magazines.

4. Blow off senior finals. While I haven’t done it yet, I’m trying really hard to get in the right mindset to do well on them, rather than blow them off. Hopefully it will help.

5. Count down the hours until summer. Even with 9 days left, thats still alotta hours. It makes it seem really far away.

My mask saved my life…

It’s hard to believe that helmets, face masks, and pads are relatively new requirements for professional athletes. I somewhat long for the days when hockey players wore modified bike helmets without face masks. Okay, so maybe they were “too dangerous” (as 70’s goalie Jacques Plante said in a fabulously thick French accent, “my mask saved my life”) but the lack of adequate protection certainly made the fist fights more interesting. It really grinds my gears when hockey players go through all the trouble of starting a fist fight, but stand on the ice punching each other in the helmet… while wearing padded gloves. Most times, none of the other players get involved. Bench-clearing brawls are becoming few and far between. I’m just saying, if hockey players fought more, maybe there would be more hockey fans, and the NHL wouldn’t have to cancel seasons…but I’m just saying…

In other sports-related news…

As of 5/2/08 the Yankees are 3 games behind the Red Sox. Yay.

I suppose this picture is kinda old by now, but that doesn\'t make it any less satisfying..
