I am a slacker. I’ll admit that. (Proudly, in fact.) I pride myself on my ability to conjure up answers to essays on book’s I’ve never even opened and I can rock a class discussion on an article I’ve never read. It’s not that I don’t want to do my work. Actually… that’s exactly it.
Throughout my life I’ve been told that the goal of elementary school is to prepare you for high school, and the goal of high school is to prepare you for college, and that the goal of college is to prepare you for life, and the goal of life is….well, what? By this logic, what is the point of doing all that work in school? Will knowing the themes behind To Kill A Mockingbird really help me in life? Negative, ghost rider.
Basically what I’m saying is know how to bullshit. Know how to bullshit well. It’s the single most useful thing I’ve learned in 12 years of school.

So here’s where I totally disagree with you. Everything we do, even the stuff you view as useless, lays a foundation for another skill in life. The simple act of reading To Kill a Mockingbird, prepares you to view the world from a different perspective. Knowing the ins and outs of that novel, prepares a student to be more analytical, a skill that is needed in all aspects of this real world everyone keeps talking about.

I feel like i shouldn’t anymore and sometimes actually do stuff, but i’m a huge procrastinator. It’s not for everything either just the stuff i really don’t want to do. But i completely agree
